How registration works

A solo business should be structured around the work you actually do. StartGE offers Individual Entrepreneur registration support and can discuss whether it is an appropriate route alongside an LLC. An IE is an individual business form rather than a separate legal entity. Tax status is a separate assessment; registering an IE does not automatically settle your tax obligations in Georgia or elsewhere.

Start with the activity

Describe how you earn money, where your customers are, how work is delivered and whether anyone else will be involved. This gives the adviser something concrete to assess before discussing registration or a tax application. An online service, local retail activity and professional practice should not be assumed to have the same requirements.

Separate three decisions

  • Legal form: the Public Registry describes an individual entrepreneur as a natural person operating in their own name, rather than a separate legal entity.
  • Tax position: discuss any registration, status application and reporting obligations separately with the relevant professional.
  • Operating routine: decide how you will keep contracts, invoices, receipts and bank records from the beginning.

If you are comparing an individual entrepreneur with an LLC, explain your partners, contracts, staffing plans and liability concerns. Ask for an assessment of the actual business instead of selecting a structure only because of an advertised headline tax rate.

A useful starting brief

  • A plain-language description of your work and customers.
  • Where you currently live and where the business will operate.
  • Whether you work alone, employ people or share ownership.
  • Whether you will attend in person or need a remote route.

From enquiry to a clear scope

Use the initial enquiry to ask for a structure review, document checklist and written scope. If accounting, an address or banking help is required, ask which services are included and which need a separate arrangement. For official registration requirements, consult the National Agency of Public Registry alongside the provider’s instructions.

Keep planning

Good to know.
